Kayaking the Milwaukee River is one of three waxed watercolors showing summertime life along the riverwalk in downtown Milwaukee. The painting was first painted with transparent watercolor on 300 lb. Arches watercolor paper, then mounted on a cradled wood panel, varnished and waxed with Durlands wax and buffed to a soft gloss. The contrast between the window reflections on the former Gimbel's building with the slanted and abstract patterns of the skywalk create rhythms above the golden water.
