South Rim, Grand Canyon

South Rim, Grand Canyon is one of a series in See America.  It was painted on hot press 300lb. Arches watercolor paper with colors of ultramarine and Winsor Blue, New Gamboge, Yellow Ochre and Raw Sienna yellows, Cadmium Red Light and Scarlet Lake.  In this scene, snowfall the night before had left a fresh white blanket of snow, laced with blue shadows that contrast with the sculptural red clay of the canyon walls.  There is a dynamic energy in the diagonal shadow patterns, the edge of the rim, ship-like prow of a bluff jutting into the canyon and the sculptured shapes carved by the river.  Finished with museum quality materials, float mounted, double matted, framed and glazed with non-glare Plexiglas.
