Thiensville Riverwalk Bridge was created for an art exhibit in Crossroads Presbyterian Church's new exhibition space, Gallery Immanuel. It is one of a collection of full size, framed watercolor paintings which depict the communities who participate in the mission programs of the congregation: Mequon, Thiensville, Grafton, Cedarburg, Port Washington and Milwaukee's St. Ben's Cathedral. This exhibit will open to the public on Sunday, September 29, 2024 with a reception at 10:15 am. Everyone is welcome to attend the reception and to visit the exhibit during office hours until the show closes on November 29. Paintings will remain in the exhibit, Serving Our Communities, until the closing date, after which they will be available for sale from the artist.
Thiensville Riverwalk Bridge is a scene along the river in Thiensville which connects the downtown business section and the Thiensville Park. The bridge was constructed by the Ozaukee Planning and Parks Department over a fish passage in the river that restructures the upstream elevation around the dam, enabling native fish species, who don't leap high enough to clear the height of the dam, to swim upstream to spawn. The beautiful shadow pattern on the bridge were my inspiration for this painting, showing the latticework of the sunlight slanting through the railings and leafy canopy of the trees. It has a strong diagonal composition, warm springlike colors and hundreds of glazes that emphasize the transparency of the watercolor medium.
