A New Day. IMG_1257

A New Day is a departure from my usual subjects of landscapes, focusing instead on the view through a beautiful leaded, faceted and designed window.  Every morning I marvel at the intricate distorted and fractured sections of trees, sky and gardens seen through the glass.  In the foreground, a Christmas Cactus is blooming,  Artistically, the painting is a study in many layered patterns:  the glass and leaded shapes and the portrayal of the scene behind it.  The flowering cactus is rendered simply and glazed over to blend the colors together.  It is mounted on a 11/2” cradled wood panel, waxed, buffed and float framed.

A New Day will be exhibited at the Cedarburg Cultural Center, W63N675 Washington Avenue, Cedarburg, WI 53012, 262-377-6123 in the Wisconsin Watercolor Society Spring Show which opens with a public Reception Saturday, January 18, 2025, 2-4 pm.  The show will run through April 27, 2025.
