Token Creek is a watercolor painting about water, how it moves, reflects, catches the light and shadows of Token Creek, a beautiful county park in DeForest, Wisconsin. Being a natural landscape, it is wild, featuring native plants, old oak trees and a sedge meadow boardwalk. The painting was completed with a variety of techniques, including wet in wet application, glazing, dry brush, splatter and scumbling. Colors include the fall panorama of Indian Yellow, Naples Yellow, Bismarck Yellow, Gold Ochre, Thalo and Sap Green, Transparent Red Orange, Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean Blue, Burnt Sienna, Permanent Magenta and Permanent Rose. The water is textured by pulling the wet edges of strokes horizontally to stretch the wave pattern, mimicking the dappled wave patterns. Lifting, outlining and layering fat paint over thin created the active movement of the creek.
Token Creek will be available at the Cedarburg Holiday Art Fair on December 5, 6 and 7 in a popular half sized 24" x 30" frame. The Fair is in the Cedarburg Community Center, free and open to the public Friday from 10 AM to 8 PM, Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM and Sunday from 10 AM to 3 PM.
