Queen Of the Prairie

Queen Of the Prairie is a spectacular wild flower that stands above all the rest of the flowers in a prairie.  In full bloom, it reminds me of cotton candy, which I tried to capture in this backlit portrait.  The painting uses the complements of red (pink) and green, sharp and fuzzy edges, and large shapes that bleed off the paper to create drama.  It was painted on 300 pound hot press d'Arches paper, float mounted and double matted with museum quality mats.  It is framed in a custom pecan wood frame and protected with non glare glass.
