Cedar Ridge Clay Bluffs  is a watercolor of the shoreline along Lake Michigan in Ozaukee County, recently acquired for public access as a park.  I was drawn to this spot by the drama of the steep sienna bluffs deeply ridged with erosion channels contrasting with the calm blue of the lake and the backlit  cedar trees along the skyline.  The challenge in the artwork was to portray the red bluffs in shadow and the setting sun along the sharp descent of the cliff. My goal was to create a sense of impending darkness.

This painting was created on hot press 300 lb. hot pressed Arches paper with colors of   Burnt Sienna , Naples Yellow, Cobalt Blue, Permanent Magenta and Sap Green.  It is framed with a custom wood frame,  float mounted and double matted with museum conservation mats.
